I managed to get the drive out of the mybook (they seriously don't make it easy!!) and got my Synology set up. OK I bought the kit from play, and ended up buying a couple of 2tb disks from Amazon as it occurred to me that I don't have enough storage space anywhere else for my mybook. I don't want to do any major surgery until I have some kind of plan at the end of it! If anyone could shed any light on this I would be really grateful. I have a username/password set up so I presume the contents may be encrypted too. The other thing I'm not sure about is how the disks were formatted. Presumably if I just put them in the Synology then they would need to be formatted to be used? Do I need to get a USB enclosure for them?
I found a guide online telling me how to retrieve the disks ( How to Remove the Hard Drive in a My Book World Edition | ) but once they are removed I'm not sure how I would be able to access them. My main concern though is rescuing my data.
I've never liked the MyBook firmware much anyway as it seems pretty buggy. I was thinking of getting an enclosure (maybe a Synology DS212+ although they are a bit pricey).
The other day it decided that it no longer wants to boot up - I think maybe the internal power has gone (tried another power adapter but it still buzzes and beeps, and clicks and does that little whir that drivers do when they start up, except it stops abruptly then repeats).Īnyway, I'm thinking that maybe I need to invest in a new NAS. I have a MyBook World Edition white light 2tb NAS (I don't think it's a World edition 2).
